For all you fans of 70’s and 80’s music an event not to be missed is the Retro Festival 2017, which started on Wednesday and continues until this Saturday! It takes place at the exclusive Schweizerhof Hotel and this year features bands including Foreigner, The Hooters and Starship feat. Mickey Thomas. Happening this Friday at the Jesuitenkirche (Bahnhofstrassse 11a 6003 Luzern) is the ‘Klangfreuden’ concert with renowned alpenhornist Lisa Stoll, pan flute soloist Michael Dinner and Japanese pianist and organist Kiyomi Higaki. Whilst the alpenhorn is quintessentially Swiss this concert promises to appeal to everyone with a mixture of classical music, folklore and modern melodies! One for all you pirates out there is the Gin & Rum Festival which will be taking place this Friday and Saturday at the Eiszentrum in Luzern! With 45 exhibitors and a selection of over 600 rums and gins, connoisseurs will be spoilt for choice! As well as this there will be Swiss specialties including meats, cheeses, chocolate and confectionary to sample and other beverages including tequila, champagne and coffee on offer! The event will also include a number of interesting seminars as well as playing host to the Swiss Gin & Rum Awards which will take place at 19:15 on the Friday evening. Visitors are strongly encouraged to use public transport and the Centre is easily accessible by bus routes 6, 7, 8 and 21. Entrance price is CHF 12.- and the festival runs from 17:00 – 23:00 on Friday and 14:00 – 23:00 on Saturday. More details can be found on the official website.
Head into the city this weekend for a free health check-up! Taking place at the Rathaus, Kornmarkt and Bahnhofplatz, ‘Treffpunkt: Gesundheit’ will be hosting numerous service providers as well as events all focused on your health and well-being! Visitors can benefit from 12 free health tests such as a hearing test or eye pressure test and you can even have your sleeping pattern analysed! Deciding where to go for dinner this Saturday evening could be tricky, with lots of great options to choose from! If you are after the flavours of Provence then head down to the Lili Centre for their International Evening, where they will be serving up mouthwatering food from the region! Or perhaps an evening of mystery, murder and dinner is more what you had in mind? Then be sure to check out this Saturday’s performance of Dinnerkrimi, taking place at the Romantik Hotel Wilden Mann (Bahnhofstrasse 30 6003 Luzern). Enjoy a good meal in a relaxed atmosphere, whilst around you a murder mystery unfolds, you’ll then find yourself playing detective as you and your fellow diners attempt to solve the mystery! Tickets cost CHF 170.- and include the performance, aperitif with appetisers, 3-course meal, wine, mineral water, tea and coffee. If solving a murder case over dinner isn’t your thing then why not be amazed by German magian Ben Hyven! You can enjoy a 3 course dinner at Restaurant 1871 at the Grand Hotel National (Haldenstrasse 4 6006 Luzern) and a magic show! Tickets cost CHF 95.- per person and can be booked online here.
This Sunday is the official start of the summer season on the Pilatus mountain and will be celebrated with 350 musicians playing from early morning till afternoon in various places on the mountain! All locals are entitled to a 50% discount on tickets up the mountain (20% with half tax tickets). Check out their Facebook page for details! Another great option for families is ‘Waldtag am Rotsee’ which is taking place this Sunday from 10:00 – 17:00. There are a surprising number of forests in the city of Luzern, which provide not only a recreational area for us to enjoy but also an important habitat for numerous animal and plant species. The city of Luzern regularly organises forest days in order to bring these diverse urban forests closer to the population.
