This weekend is set to be a musical extravaganza in the City as the ‘Lucerne Festival’ continues to showcase the stars of the classical world and ‘Pilatus on the Rocks’ promises to rock the mountain!

Friday

Friday is the opening of a new exhibition at the Bellpark Museum in Kriens (Luzernerstrasse 21, 6011 Kriens). ‘Finding Brutalism’ displays the works of Simon Phipps; who for more than 20 years has conducted a photographic survey of British Post-War architecture. British Brutalism is an architectural language promoting the aesthetics of concrete. The opening and book launch take place on Friday, 25 August 2017 at 7 pm, followed by a reception. The exhibition runs from 26 August until 5 November 2017.

Saturday

One for families: there is a new children’s playground opening in Horw this weekend, the Aqua Bubbles (Aqua Sprudelt)! Families are invited to check out the new park this Saturday from 13:00 – 16:00. More information can be found on the website.

Also happening this weekend, the Lucerne Festival continues with a full programme of events taking place across the city! Venues included the KKL, Pavillon Tribschenhorn, Lukaskirche and even a train! The ‘Concert Train’ departs from Zug railway station at 16:59 on Saturday afternoon and arrives in Luzern at 17:51. Along the way passengers will be entertained by Unavantaluna: four Sicilians with traditional local instruments who play tarantellas, work songs and of course love songs from their homeland. Tickets cost CHF 25.- and can be purchased online here, any remaining tickets will be available from 16:40 on the platform. For details of the full festival programme please click here.

And last but not least ‘Pilates on the Rocks’ is taking place this Saturday evening! The event is the highest-altitude festival in Switzerland and this year they have 3 great artists lined up to rock the mountain: MANDO DIAO, DADA ANTE PORTAS and HENRIK BELDEN. There are a variety of different tickets and packages available starting from CHF 125.- per person. More details can be found on the official website.

Sunday

On Sunday you can catch the last ‘Beach Burger Boat’ of the season which will be departing from the SNG Pier Casino (in front of the Casino Luzern) at 12.00

The event promises an afternoon of fun, sun, music and great food! Tickets cost CHF 55.- per person including the burger buffet and boat trip. For more information and to book tickets.

Also This Saturday and Sunday you can enjoy the 2nd annual Highland Games at the Allmend from 10:00 to 17:00 (there is an evening event with food and band on Saturday night). There will be individual and group competitions in categories such as Cabertoss, Weight for height and Weight for distance, Putting the Stone and the Scottish Hammer Throw, it will be a true piece of the Highlands, there will also be games for the kids, as well as a medieval market and a whisky and cigar lounge. The pass for the event is CHF 10.- and is valid on both days.
