Advent time in Luzern

Advent Sunday, also known as First Sunday in Advent, is the first day of the Advent season in which Christians prepare for the celebration that commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. It is always on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day and can fall as early as November 27 and as late as December 3.

This year we have the latter, with the first advent being Sunday December 3rd.

Lucerne loves Christmas and there are several places in town where you can enjoy the advent atmosphere

Besides lighting a candle on each of the advent Sundays, there are the much beloved Advent Calendars (which begin on December 1st) to enjoy. Here are some of the best ones you can enjoy/purchase in town.

The first place to enjoy an Advent‘s calendar is the Schild shop on Krammgasse 2. Starting December 1st each day, the shop will reveal one of their windows, brightly decorated.

The Luzerner Theatre is also offering an Advent‘s Calendar. Each day there are offering 30 minutes of free culture from 18.00 to 18:30 in front of the theatre. More details here

If you want a really special treat then Max Chocolatier has an advent‘s calendar with 2 truffles per day, you have to pick up the second half later to ensure that the chocolates are really fresh. The calendar will set you back CHF 160.- (or CHF 170 if you like your chocolates with a bit of alcohol). A special gift for a special someone?

Or you can make your own advent’s calendar by buying or making your own calendar and filling it with whatever you want!

Christmas also means Sunday shopping and the city allows shops to be open on Sundays 10 & 17 of December, so no stress, right?

Here is also a great website to check out what is on in the lead up to Christmas is weihnachten-luzern

Happy December everyone!!
