Happy International Women’s Day!
Switzerland will be celebrating along with most other nations today, but although many steps forward have been achieved there still remains a lot to do. In general, women continue to earn 20% less then men (at this rate it will take 81 years for equality to be achieved), there are very few women CEOs in the business world (6%), and it is still “expected” for women to give up their careers once they have given birth. And in any case the cost of childcare being so high, you end up working just to pay for it. For internationals the problem is often worse as they do not have the support of a family to help them. Last week the parliament argued that it would be a logistical nightmare to expect large companies to make sure that their employees all receive equal salaries. So let’s keep up the good work and be sure to acknowledge the women in your lives today.
If you own a business you will have to pay tax whether you are making or losing money. This decision was upheld in court after 14 business owners took their case to court. The minimum tax rule was put into place in 2016, this means that everyone has to pay at least a minimum of CHF 200.- to CHF 500.- in taxes.
Saying of the day: “S’isch gnueg Heu donde.” There is enough hay here – it’s enough now!
